RIVIERA REGIME is the rap duo of KLEE MAGOR a.k.a SLEAZEBAG and BENNY BRAHMZ a.k.a THE DRIFTER. The two members are both of Israeli descent but rep cities all over the world. Klee Magor grew up in the grimy streets of West End Toronto and Benny Brahmz spent his life drifting everywhere from Boston to Venezuela to Brazil to Chicago to Toronto and more. Riviera Regime have always been a universal group and never limited themselves to one city or region.
Klee and Benny first met in 1997 while both serving in the Golani Brigade, the toughest unit of the Israeli Defense Forces. After fighting in one of the wars and witnessing the brutality of combat, their lives were changed forever. They witnessed some of their closest friends die and even had near death experiences themselves, having been shot at, bombed, and engaged in intense gun battles. These events helped shape the future of the group since brutal, rugged, and raw imagery would be a big part of their lyrics. "The IDF experience gave me that edge in this hardcore rap game. It has influenced the style of music we make, the live shows we put on and the movement we rep.”-says Klee Magor. "The IDF was a big influence in that it is part of my life and history and taught us not to give a fuck even less than we already did.”- explains Benny Brahmz on how that period reflects their life and the music of Riviera Regime. After their service in the Golani Brigade they moved out to Klee’s home town of Toronto Canada, living in one of T.O.’s most notorious hoods known as Finch West.
Klee and Benny created Landmine Entertainment in 2002 and independently released their first two albums, THUGZ OF WAR (2004) and COLD BLOODED (2006), with the vast majority of production on both albums done by Klee Magor himself. In 2006 things changed dramatically for RR when they connected with legendary Brooklyn MC/producer/label owner NECRO. They performed their first and now classic concert with him on May 5th, 2006 in Toronto at the Opera House. It was a sold out event and grouped Necro with Riviera Regime for the first time. They became crew instantly since they all shared the same love for brutal and violent rap, but also the struggle of being grimey jewish hip hop artists. Since then Riviera Regime have toured all over the world with Necro and the Psycho+Logical-Records camp, opening up shows as well as hyping for Necro. By joining forces with the king of Death Rap they have sparked a movement that has only begun.
Riviera Regime are currently signed to Necro’s label Psycho+Logical-Records and are due to drop their PLR debut release REAL SOLDIERZ RIDE. The album features a slew of guest appearances from artists such as Necro, Mr. Hyde, Danny Diablo, Q-Unique, Nems, Cynic of Street Platoon plus many more, and features production by Necro, Klee Magor and others. "Real Soldierz Ride” is more influenced by the streets than anything else and is inspired by the hood struggles we been through that a lot of cats can relate to, regardless of race or religion.” – says Benny Brahmz. "The main message of this record is that if you real then you ride for your cause....whether it’s on a battlefield, on the streets, or in the prison yard or wherever. So this album is for the real G'z, the soldierz of the streets surviving the struggle, and for the goons that joined any army...it’s for the real riders! This album is rider music!” – describes Klee Magor on the meaning of the new album.
Besides the fact that Klee and Benny have paid dues in the battle fields of war as front line combat soldiers, they have also paid dues in the streets living through hard times and surviving the perils of a hood existence. Riviera Regime bring that hardcore energy for the true hip hop heads and psychos alike, and are taking hardcore hip hop to a whole new level with their distinct brand of hardcore hip hop. |
